Please help- unresolved insomnia since childhood

23 year old female - Ive had insomnia as long as i can remember, it goes hand and hand with my anxiety/depression which im trying to treat but also very non-responsive to meds.

Ive tried various sleep meds but the one i have found helpful is Seroquel. It gave me great sleep at 25mg for about a month until my body got used to it. Then I had to keep increasing, now im at 300mg!! I've started taking Cymbalta for my anxiety, but its made me SO ALERT, that its completely taken away the affect of the seroquel. Ive tried clonazpam, zopiclone, trazadone and some others with no lucky....

My question is, how do i stop my body from adapting to the seroquel?? should i stop taking it a few days of the week? At this rate im going to have to keep increasing it and the side effects to my body are crazy. I get tremors, BAD constipation, weight gain etc.

Anyway, without seroquel ive not able to sleep AT ALL, my entire life my insomnia has been very bad, its been like 6 nights of the week i wont sleep, last night ill sleep. My mind races a lot when i try to sleep, should i do a sleep study?? My doctor says if i treat my anxiety, it'll treat my insomnia BUT the anxiety meds make my sleep worse! :(

So sorry to read your sleep problem history, I wonder how your body has manged with so little sleep.

My wife takes a generic Ambin (sp?) sleeping pill and takes it every night.  I've tried it a time or two (my doctor gave me a prescription, I'm not taking without a doctor's approval) and it seems to help me fall asleep, but my problem is staying asleep, not falling asleep.  In any case there is some indication that my wife is getting less help after a year or more, maybe its been several years already.  She also takes medication for anxiety and depression, I can ask her what she takes and if it seems to have any interaction with the sleeping pill.  She also sees a psychiatrist and has also had help from a psychologist (counselor) in the past.  All but this last are MD doctors and of course they prescribe meds... overall she sleep much better than what I read is your situation.

so im thinking taking seroquel 5 nights a week, then weekends i can take something else for my anxiety liek clonazpam..it might not help me sleep but atleast ill be able to sleep during the week. That way my body wont get used to the seroquel and lose its effects righjt?

From what I've read, you're not supposed to take sleeping tablets for more than a few days at a time. Maybe if you cut down to a few days a week your body might not get used to it.
