Help me sleep

I am a 72 Yr.old woman fighting insommnia on and off for months bouncing off of a sleeping aid to another.I don't know why I can't sleep but I worry constantly about it,always looking at the clock, never getting much rest at night which scares me to think whats going on in my brain.I most recently began taking Effexor xr slowly last week at the smallest dosage to the next dosage of 75mg. since Saturday.I am sad to say that I haven't begun to sleep at all and my head is killing me.Am I looking too soon for results, should I give up on this medicine or stick it out?

Hi, you should try and sleep as much as you can, at this age it is common for anyone not to get full sleep due to various reasons like just staying indoors, not much physical activity or social contacts, worrying about days ahead or family problems so on. Better consult a doctor before swithchig on to other tablets. Drink more water, take a shower before going to bed, listen to soft music etc which may be soothing. massage can also do some help. Relax and get adjusted. Take care.
