Sleep apnea, or something else?

Sometimes I stop breathing in my sleep.  The thing is, it wakes me up completely.  Usually, I'll be dreaming, and my vision (in the dream) starts to go all glittery and fuzzy like it does when you stand up to fast.  I'll wake up and, sometimes after several panicked seconds where I can't figure out how or don't know what's going on, start breathing again.  After that I will often be afraid to go back to sleep, as these episodes tend to happen more than once in any given night, if they happen.  I had 2 incidents like this over the summer, but then 4 this month.  They usually occur between 3 and 8 AM (but it happened once today when I fell asleep in class at 1 in the afternoon) , and will happen up to 5 times in half an hour, then I'll be fine for the rest of the night.  The only thing I've been doing differently is that my adderall dosage was raised from 10mg to 15mg in mid october.  Any thoughts on what might be going on?  I can't really afford to see a doctor except as an abosolute last resort.

I couldn't afford that either, plus I'm not the primary income in my household, and no way am I getting her involved.  I'm not taking any other meds, and I've been on the adderall for close to a year, so I really doubt that it's medication related.  My concern is that I didn't think that one woke all the way up with sleep apnea...

Can you go to a community clinic that bases cost on income? Sounds like you could benefit from seeing a doctor about the possibility of having sleep apnea, either obstructive or central. If you are on any other meds it would be a good idea to ask the prescribing doctor and/or pharmacist if your symptoms could be side effects.
