Sleeping Problems

I am an 18 year old who has had problems sleeping for possibly a year or more. Since I moved across the country its gotten even worse. First it takes a long time before i actually fall asleep and i am a light sleeper so not only do I hear everything, i wake up to any noise. I also toss and turn a lot during the night. Everyday I wake up with bags under my eyes and I have intense tear troughs. Sometimes when I stay up, my head begins to hurt and i feel tired and sleepy but cannot fall asleep. I have tried medication but it only works sometimes. Every once in a while I'll wake up in sweat with no obvious reason, other times I have terrible night terrors. I also cant sleep with people around me or within the same general area.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

You should not keep thinking about sleeplessness, as this in turn promotes insomnia and it becomes a vicious cycle.

You should stop becoming anxious and try to relax. Condition yourself that you can relax and that you can sleep well. Follow good sleep hygiene measures like going to bed at the same time, waking up at the same time, avoidance of alcohol, smoking and caffeinated beverages. Maintain warm, comfortable bedroom environment and engage in relaxing activities like a warm bath before bedtime.

Try yoga and meditation they have calming effects. Go for long stress free walks. Also, do exercise in the daytime this promotes good sleep.
If it your symptoms persists or are troublesome consult your doctor for assessment and counseling.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

It sounds like the reason you can't sleep is anxiety. Most people with problems sleeping really have something else going on that's keeping them from sleeping. You should conceder talking to a therapist or a psychologist.
Good luck, I hope things get better for you.
