Unable to fall asleep

For almost a year now I've been having problems falling asleep. I've been given sleep aides to help plus, numerous stress relief exercises and relaxation drills before bed which rarely help.
The biggest problem is that its almost a fear to go to sleep. I try to relax and fall asleep but it always ends up almost painful.
The relaxation turns into muscle twitches and tingling in different and alternating parts of my body. Hearing starts to sound like someone put a tin can over my head and things begin to vibrate warp.
At the moment I was trying to take a nap but my sleep "pains" are preventing it. I cannot close my eyes and go to sleep. I rely on sleep pills or passng out due to complete exhaustion.
What is going on and how will I be able to normally fall asleep without pills or body fatigue?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Just sleep hygiene measures may not help, you may have to use the CPAP machine. CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is the therapy for obstructive sleep apnea as it helps to keep the airways patent. Under therapy you can carry on with your normal work and driving also. Only go for regular follow ups with your doctor to check to see if the apneas are under control and if your sleep is adequate. Ensure to use the CPAP machine regularly.

Hope This Helped and Do Keep Us Posted.

Thank you Sunrunner,
The only labs I've had done are general for cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid and the usual. I'm not exactly sure what tests would help give me some answers.
In addition I've had 2 sleep studies at my request which returned a diagnosis of Major Obstructive Sleep Apnea (i believe, just had tests done last week). Again, its a problem AFTER I've fallen asleep, not so much the inability to get to sleep.
I've done some reading this weekend and I'm going to try (yet again) fix things with the assistance of sleep aides. I read a days worth of Sleep Hygiene materials and they make perfect sense, turns out I have extremely poor sleep hygiene.
Now with the knowledge of what MAY be contributing to my poor sleep habits and how to help fix them, I will try to follow through and get better rest.

Hey Xploited,

I've also exhibited chronic Insomnia symptoms, and for many years. In addition to an ongoing sleep disorder, I also have an endocrine imbalance, mainly my cortisol in relation to the adrenals. Have you had any recent blood labs done? I also wonder if you're describing Restless Leg Syndrome. Many testimonies from RLS patients mirror what you're saying. I also have RLS symptoms, which are in turn caused by my Sleep Disorder  (Alpha Intrusion)  I hope things improve for u,

Sunrunner
