cant keep my eyes open while driving...

I'm a 23 year old female and for the past year no matter what time of day it is  when I drive it takes all my power to keep my eyes open. I won't be tired before or after I drive but for some reason it hits me right after I start driving.  I'm afraid one day I wont be able to keep my eyes open and ill cause a wreck.  Please give me some advice as to why this happens or things I can do to stop this from happening...

I would get a sleep study to try to figure it out. I was told that my particular sleep pattern is allowing my brain to think that I received enough sleep.
I can sleep 12 hours and fall to sleep at a traffic light. The horns wake me up. But when I am doing something I just feel exhausted not sleepy.
I can stay awake 18 hrs a day but not functioning properly.
The doc said that my internal clock is affecting how sleepy I am. But in reality my brain is not getting any sleep.
Sorry if it doesn't make any sense. I am still waiting to solve my sleep problem and can't think.
