memory loss during sleep

for the past two months it's only happened twice, I wake up about an hour or two after I fell sleep and I dont know were I am or who the man sleeping next to me is. After a couple of minutes I realize that it's my husband, when I go back to sleep and wake up the next day I still don't know if it truly was my husband or some stranger. Has this happend to any one else. What could it be or is it just all a dream?

Hi, welcome to the forum, it is difficult to come to a particular diagnosis in your case and needs a detailed evaluation. Your symptoms are suggestive of Transient global amnesia (TGA); this is a clinical syndrome of reversible anterograde amnesia. Why this happens? The cause remains obscure. This can be associated with epileptic seizures. Hence, past history of seizures is important. As this has happened twice, we cannot say for sure. It can be due to incomplete sleep or prolonged sleep deprivation leading confusional state when you wake up.

If the symptoms persist then you can undergo EEG monitoring esp. during sleep.

This shouldn't be point of concern, relax. You can consult sleep specialist if the problem recurs. Take care and regards.
