temazapan

Hi I have decreased my dosage of temazapan(restoril) by half dosage. Anyone else take it?

I use temazapan too and it helps me sleep. I can't go without taking something. I take natural herbs like a nerve formula and that helps me if I wake up at night. But I cut the dose down to 15mg instead of 30 mg. That was a few months ago. I'm going to be going to school at the end of this month and I need to feel rested and alert as I can be.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Medications are not the ideal choice for treatment for insomnia. They are given to tide over temporary insomnia. Either way to most of the sedatives (sleeping tablets), people develop tolerance, that is they stop working very effectively with time. So, try to develop good sleep hygiene. Sleep and get up at the same time every day, avoid smoking, alcoholic and caffeinated beverages and exercise regularly.

restoril has helped my sleep apnea, I have central apneas/hypopneas.  but I'm not sure how safe it is and if it destroys your memory long term?  I think I am less foggy during the day when I use it to sleep
clonezepam also seems to work without side effects but I don't know the long term effects either

Most sleep doctors try to avoid medications for sleep or if they do implement them it's only for a short period while the individual also starts CBTi which can help treat the insomnia at it's root cause and prevent them from needing to take an addictive sleep medication at all.

A Harvard study in 2004 demonstrated medications are not the best treatment for insomnia, but rather Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) is better.  CBTi is safe in the long term, is less expensive, has no side effects, and treats insomnia at the root cause instead of just trying to "knock someone out" like medications do.  If you go see a sleep doctor in person, CBTi is what they will recommend.  Alternatively, online programs have been found to be equally effective and less expensive.
