absolutely do the feeding tube as soon as possible .   the doctor probably heard early signs of aspiration pneumonia and realized that your mom was aspirating the food and her saliva which means that she cannot be fed through the mouth.    this is a routine procedure and can be reversed as soon as your mom feels better and can eat on her own.   it may take a few months but it is better to do that than keep feeding her and then deal with a pneumonia.   good luck if she's already had it.
