What is the best way to get back hand function?

I don't have enough finger movement to attempt CIMT. What have you found or your doctor recommended that can bring back finger/hand/wrist function.Basically I know I need to move hand control to a totally different part of my brain.
For my arm I can use two handed weight machines at the 'Y' and then remove the good arm as the affected arm gets some movement, which does mean that my fingers get some grasp but mostly tone is used. I bought my own E-stim machine for finger extension.

The problem is that I have no volitional control of my fingers except for some gross grasp. How do I get the initial control/ extension of the fingers started? Once it has started I can use the suggestions. I have found that once I can start using a muscle it takes me three months to control it. How do I start getting the brain to control the muscle? I have heard of Saeboflex, mirror box therapy and mental imagery. I haven't seen any protocols for mirror box therapy or mental imagery.

I was just speaking with a friend about his mother and her stroke.  The Dr.'s gave her the exercise of putting 3 marbles in a bowl of uncooked rice.  And then trying to find the marbles and grasping them.  Perhaps this will help

I would agree with Jonathon. Over here, in UK, ES is not really recognised, but I swear it works.

absolutely.. electrical stimulator is helpful.. but try to have gripping exercises.. and coordination exercises for your hands.. that might help how to control..
