Hello,
My 66 year old mother had a cerebellar stroke 3 weeks. She was admitted to the ER with vertigo, nausea, vomiting, no balance, high blood pressure and slurred speech. The first CAT scan showed no sign of infartations or bleeding, so she was misdiagnosed with vertigo and spent the whole day at the hospital until she finally lost consciousness late in the evening. A second cat Scan revealed two stroke locations in the cerebellum. After about 15 hours she had a decompression surgery to allow room for the swelling and prevent other areas of her brain to be affected. An MRI was used to determine whether her basilar artery was clogged and if there were sings of infartation in her brain stem, there weren't. An MRI last Friday showed a number of small infartations on the right side of her brain stem and she has remained in a coma since Aug 15/13 (3 weeks). she is breathing completely on her own and she has not had any complications other than fever due to an infection. She is out of Intensive care even though she remains jn a coma. she has a lot of reflex movements in her arms and legs, she moves her eyes a lot as well and barely opens one or the other randomly. The doctors said she has a 8 week window within which she could wake up past that point they say it is virtually impossible. I have been by her side the whole time, I talk to her, read to her, touch her and kiss her a lot. I have been praying using reiki healing, auric therapy. I found music therapy that I play for her 3 hours a day. She has pulmonary and physical therapy 3 times a day. She is breathing through a tracheostomy and eating through a gastric tube in her belly..sometimes it looks like she is swallowing saliva but I don't know if it is going to her belly or her lungs.. :S
Is there anything else I can be doing? And does anyone know of anyone who has come out a coma after this long? Any help and info is much appreciated.
Thank you
