Almost 41 and trying to conceive

A little about my history before asking my question:
Me: 41 in May (I have 2 children from previous marriage)
dh: 36 (he has 3 children from previous marriage)
Months trying to conceive: 9
Cycles are like clockwork every 28-29 days. I seem to ovulate between days 11-14.
I went to ob/gyn and he ran some tests on day 3 of my cycle. He says everything looks good. My fsh level was 9.3 which he said is "fair" but it seems no matter what the tests say they frown at anyone over 40.
I had taken fertilaid for the past 2 months. Dr prescribed clomid 50mg on cd 5-9 and pretty much said good luck and I can refer you to a specialist when you come back in April. He even mentioned donor eggs. I want to have a baby with my husband with my own eggs if possible. I've read all sorts of things about improving egg health. I've read lots of stuff and it's all very confusing. Based on my information here does anyone think I have chances of conceiving on my own with my own eggs?

I have heard alot about that happening and I have some pre-seed just in case but I have lots of cm but it's either sticky or watery. If I have to do another cycle of clomid I will use an opk.

Clomid dries up your CM so many women take Mucinex to have EWCM

Thank you. This clomid is confusing me because I decided not to use an opk and just go on my own to figure out when I ovulate. I usually ovulate between 11-13 cd but my last clomid pill was on cd 9 so it's confusing and I don't have ewcm this time like I normally do. My temp is actually below coverline which is also confusing. It's been below for the past 2 days.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you so much for being encouraging. I am definitely going to stay positive and keep trying. My husband has 3 girls and wants a boy so bad. I pray I can give him one.

My humble opinion, yes you should absolutely keep trying.

Pro and Con it with your DH.  Only you two can decide what is best.  All that stuff about "improving egg quality" is confusing because there really is no sure fire way or solid proof of how to achieve this.  You can run test after test after test.  Then analyze them all until you are blue in the face.  But the fact is, no matter what you do-  clomid, IUI, try on your own... you will not get pregnant and carry to term unless "all the stars are aligned" and your body decides it's time.

Don't drive yourself crazy with all the stats and information and ESPECIALLY not with all the doctors reactions to your spring chicken age!  But do research and discuss with your DH and anyone else who can give you the support you need at this time.  You don't need people judging you or telling you what's best for YOU and YOUR DH.

But, since you asked, ;) my humble opinion is yes.  You should keep trying.

By the way,  I'm 41 this Sunday.  28 weeks with my first, a boy.  He is healthy and rockin and rollin!  All my tests came back normal.  I also had very regular cycles and ovulated around cd 11 like clockwork.  We conceived this little bugger all on our own.  Not one shot, not one pill, nothing but a little fun ;)   Although we did try IUI and even on IVF.

Good Luck!!

I do and I personally think you should keep trying.  Make yourself as healthy as possible - do acupuncture, yoga, meditation, look up eating and fertility and change diet if needed.  If that doesn't work after awhile go meet with an RE.  I met with Dr. Sherman Silber (you can google him) recently and he was very helpful.
