ok well either way its possible to have bleeding down there when your pregnant & people will call it a "period" because of the blood & symptoms .
Elle - what your friends mom would have had wasn't a proper period it would have been vaginal bleeding. A period is the shedding of your uterine lining and unfertilised egg each month, if the egg is fertilised then you're pregnant, hence why you don't get a period. Some women just bleed slightly as the baby implants and the uterus grows in pregnancy. Sometimes the bleeding is caused by placental issues too.
It's not a period, but many women think it is because that's the only type of vaginal bleeding they are used to.

No, it's not possible to be pregnant and have a period. Was your period on time? What makes you think you could have been pregnant. If your period was a lot of heavier than it usually is then it's possible that it could have been a chemical pregnancy (very early miscarriage) but there's not really a way to know if that's what it was.
