HELP! I have Hashimoto's with a TSH of 0.01 and feel TIRED!!!

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the board. My recent results and long running sypmtoms having me seeking additional advice.

Basically, I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's for 2 years now. My autoantiboides were in the "thousands" range and my T4 usually floats anywhere from 0.01 - 1.0 and my TSH is usually above 10 and as high as 35. I don't remember old FT3 values, except the most recent was 174 and they have alwasy been in the "optimal" range. My current dosage is 1.5 mg of Synthroid.

Anyhow - I have had two ultrasounds in the last year and I was told on Tuesday my thyroid looks to be pretty bad - very lumpy - but free from nodules. I am extremely tired, fatigued, nausea, headaches and muscle aches. The low energy is pretty bad. I was actually nodding off while driving in the middle of the afternoon, which is pretty scary!!!

My doctors office called this morning to say my new lab results were in:

T4 - has "normalized" . It was below normal and is not in the lower normal range (nurse would not give me the #)
FT3 - it is in the optimal range. 6 weeks ago it was 174 and again the nurse would not give me the actual #.
TSH - 0.04 - it is on the "rise", per the nurse. 6 weeks ago it was 0.01.

So - no medication adjustments. No follow up's, just same ole stuff. I feel horrible and I have actually managed to gain 7 lbs in the last month even though I jog 15 miles a week!!!

Please - any suggestions???

Valerie

You have a problem with your thyroid still, something is not getting treated properly. This is exactly how I was but I eventually went to a place where my diaphram was getting too weak to breathe.
I went on Armour thyroid about 3 months ago and I have much more energy and my breathing problems are resolving. I also put in some supplements. I am a member of many forums who do not take the TSH being a wonderful measure of your thyroid activity as gospel because everyone is different. Some people do fine on T4 only some don't.

good luck

The TSH is still too low - in these cases we usually decrease the dose of levothyroxine (Synthroid).  The ultrasound is typical for Hashimotos.  With the severe fatigue, would consider talking your doctor about other possible causes, ?sleep apnea?.
