It is not uncommon for thyroid to become inflammed after delivery , especially if delivery was accompanied with blood loss.

A goiter does not, necessarily, have to be removed surgically.  A goiter is simply a swollen/inflamed thyroid.

Have you has thyroid blood work done to determine whether or not you have hypothyroidism and/or Hashimoto's?  If you have hypothyroidism, you should be taking thyroid hormone replacement.  Often a goiter shrinks once thyroid hormone levels are adequate.

If you have thyroid labs, please post the results and be sure to include reference ranges, since ranges vary lab to lab.
