38 pound weight gain!

Hi
I had a total thyroidectomy in November 2008 (4 months ago)
in that time I also quit smoking.
I am now on 25mg of levothyrooxine
I ahve gained 38 pounds.
the endo crinologist says it is likely form the insluin (I am also diabetic and switched form pills to insulin)
But...wouldn't the thyroid, if it is hypo, be causeing the wieght gain?

I feel so roudna dn fat and my clothes dont fit! this is a truly aweful feeling sitting in these pants that no longer fit properly, yet I wonder if I will be able to lose the weight now that I ahve no thyroid??

I had RAI and quit smoking in April 2008.  I gained 30 lbs. in appx. 4 months, so I feel your pain.
I attribute half of my gain to the quitting smoking and half to no thyroid.
Presently, I am on 125mcg of Synthroid.  My Dr. started me on 88mcg, so I am surprised at your low dose, but your labs determine everything.
Be sure and get copies of your labs and keep a file..."normal" is different for everyone.
I am just starting to lose alittle of that weight and it's been a year.
I know it's depressing, but you will be able to lose some weight....it takes time....lots of time.

When were your last labs done?  It may be time for a follow-up.

I don't depend on my Dr. to make those decisions.  If I don't feel right, I call and get my labs updated.

Post your lab numbers like gimel requested.  Be sure and post the ranges also.

I expect that your dose of levothyroxine is 25mcg.  Please check and confirm.  If it is only 25 mcg, that's low, after a TT, unless the doctor was planning to gradually increase your dosage as required.
Also, please post the actual numbers from your blood testing, along with reference ranges used by the  lab and doctor.  If you were not given a copy of the results, it would be a good idea to obtain one.  With the requested info, members can give you a much better response.
