3rd Generation Thyroid test

What does 3rd generation mean? My test came back as a 6.847. I was on levothyroxine 25 mcg for almost 9 years and was having side effects of weight gain, bloating, and most recently elevated Triglycerides.I went off meds for about four months and tested normal and felt much better. Now My test came back with the 6.847 and I asked to try brand Synthroid. I am starting to feel the same way I did on the levothyroxine, but also tired. My grandmother has taken Armour for years, but she said they discontinued it? Has anyone tried Biodenticles?

Thank you, that did help. I just started the brand synthroid about a week ago. I'm only on 25 mcg but I feel even more tired since being back on a thyroid med. I decided to try to take it at night instead before bed and see if it makes a difference. I will ask my doctor about the other test too. Mabye I do need both. Thank you again.

3rd generation testing is suppose to be more sensetive than  regular TSH testing. You need to ask your Doc to run your free T-4 and free T-3 labs  test.
These will give results of active thyroid hormone in your blood stream. Much more accurate than TSH. Synthroid and Levo are both only a T-4 drug. Many people feel much when taking both T-4 and T-3  and are low on T-3 as well. There are many T-4/T-3 drugs on the market. Armour,   I believe is on backorder but not discontinued. But there are others such as Westhroid and Naturethroid available which I know you can get.I hope that help a little. Take care.
