I had my thyroid removed, was on cytomel for two weeks and off it to let my TSH go to 30 for RAI. I was supposed to have it checked weekly to monitor my TSH levels. Well the tech fogot to run my test and the following week my level was 91.1. I am in danger? I called the office and the nurse told me that I'm ready for the RAI to which I informed her that I'm 3 times ready. How did this happen I asked...she refused to tell my and kept telling me that I am ready for the next level. Today is Friday, next Monday I take me radio iodine pill for a scan on Wednesday and the iodine treatment later that day. What should I keep and eye on? I don't want to have permanent health damage. - CB from Texas.
thanks for all of your help guys....i feel like a monster literally.i snap at the littlest problem.my husband is in iraq and i am snapping at him when i really shouldnt be. she(my endocrinologist) doesnt want to see me for another 2 months for my bloodwork.ugh.i am so frustrated! i am taking my levothyroxin 175 mcg every morning with coffee and food afterwards.the only other meds i am on is desogen birth control pills.not that i need them ..my husband is in iraq.i just take the desogen so i keep it in my system for when he does come home.i think i am going to call the doctor to see if she could line up a test for a full thyroid penal test. thanks for all of your help guys. it is making me have a little hope when i didnt before.
175mcg is pretty heavy dosage, usually people even after RAI(means their thyroid is completely gone) only take 125-150 mcg per day. At this point, you need a full thyroid penal test, find out your FT3 and FT4, in addition to TSH.. If by increasing Lev is not help you, you may have to try T3 supplements or T4/T3 combo, or something like Armour. But first get a full thyroid blood test, also find out if you have T4 to T3 converting problem....good luck.
Well, at least it is climbing slowly. My TSH went to 120 last Summer, so I know what that feels like. There really isn't much difference between 30 and 90.
I understand your depression, also. I begged my GP to send me to a psychiatrist last Summer, but then I cancelled the appointment. My insurance wouldn't cover it, and the initial consult was expensive. If you can get help for the depression, TAKE IT.
What does your Endo think is going on?
Is you free T3 really low? Maybe Armour would be a better drug choice.
Are you taking your Levo first thing in the morning and waiting an hour to eat or take other meds? Have you asked your doctor if you are taking any meds or supplements that may be working against the Levo?
It sounds like your body is not using the hormones you are giving it for some reason. Is your doctor exploring that
Sorry for all the questions. The more of them you answer, the better the chance someone will be able to offer help.
I hope you find encouragement here.
I hope the doctors get you figured out soon.
i get tested every 6 weeks it has been climbing over the last year and i fell like a nut case..i have been really depressed.seriously depressed.i called a psychiatrist yesterday it is so bad. you are right i do feel awful.my strength/energy is gone.all they told me from my ultrasound is that my thyroid is "ugly" and very huge.but i dont have a pertruding goiter. my previous doses didnt make a difference.my levels rose anyway.
Did your TSH increase on previous doses?
Make sure you take meds on empty stomach, w/ glass of water, and at least 1/2 hour before eating.
Ditto the above questions from AR-10
What makes you think it will climb?
Previous test results?
I can tell you this. There is not much difference between 30 and 90 in regard to how you feel. Awful is awful.
When was your last test?
When is your next test?
