Any connection between Anaphalactic shock and hyothyroidism

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 years ago and take levothyroxine 100mcgs daily. Last September I developed hives, my GP felt it was an allergy but since then I have had 3 anyphalactic shock episodes where I have had to be hospitalised, I now carry an Epipen.  I have just seen a dermatologist who changed my antihistamine presciption, and who told me the hives could be linked to my thyroid condition and has taken blood to test for  C3, C4, haemoglobins, electrophoresis, full blood count and ESR.   Can you explain the link please between hypothyroid and allergic reactions?   Also, is there anything I can do myself to help matters as it's very depressing.

My daughter has been suffering with terrible hives, swelling, and anaphalactic shock episodes.  She is diabetic and diagnosed with Hashimoto's.  She also has to carry an epi pen now.  You might be lucky to have an allergist/immunologist who agrees it might be thyroid related...hers will not.  She found a research paper published that ties the thyroid, chronic uticurea, and angiodema to the thyroid and is working on that angle.  Her quality of life is awful, and when she gets that adrenaline rush, she never knows if it will end up in a full blown attac or not.  Synthroid has not helped.....

Hi, I am not sure at all but am extremely well-versed with allergic anaphylaxis and food allergies because my daughter is anaphylactic to latex, plums, nuts and has been in the ER two times and carries an epi pen.

If this sheds no answers, I'd consider a good allergist and get tested.  If it still continues outside of the thyroid, maybe under your Dr do a total food elimination diet and add in one thing a time until you see a small reaction begin and you may uncover your culprit if it isn't thyroid related.

I really am not sure on the hives and hypothyroid . you could also try to get onto Dr. Lupo's expert forum  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/120

WELCOME to the community.

I had some instances of hives out of the blue and am not an allergy person .. turns out my Vitamin D was extremely low and am now being treated.  It was 9 when normal is 32-100.  I'd ask them to toss in a Vit D test also.
