Anyone do a thyrogen scan?

I found out that I had thyroid cancer 6 months ago.  I underwent a total thyroidectomy and a center neck dissection because it had spread to my lymph’s.  I did my RAI treatment and am now getting ready for my 6 month follow up rai scan.  I choose to go with the Thyrogen injections because I have a very hard time being off my meds.  I live on Maui and will be the 2nd person here to have the thyrogen scan done here.  I have a lot of questions but no answers.  Will it make me feel sick?  What are the side effects if any?  I start my LID on Monday (and am not looking forward to it) and my shots start on 3/31/08.  I had uptake on the scan that I did after treatment so if I understand correctly, this scan needs to be clear.  Thanks for the help!!

I just had shots and scans.  For me hours after shot I'd feel very slowed down, nauseous, body aches but by night was gone.  Only issue I had with scan was I don't do well in tight places and didn't like the arm wrap but the 2nd scan I took something to relax me and it was over before I knew it.  I'm waiting for info about the i-131 therapy now.  Good luck..Kim

I just recently had Thyrogen injections and I did not feel any side effects from them at all.  I can't speak for everyone here, but I think Thyrogen is a wonderful alternative to having to be hypothyroid.  Just make sure your insurance covers them as they are expensive.
