Doctors just don't seem ot understand that a low dose of thyroid med is not additive to prior levels of serum thyroid. The med causes TSH to go down, which then causes less output of natural thyroid hormone. The net effect is little to no change in thyroid levels, and sometimes worse symptoms. Only when the dosage is enough that TSH is suppressed enough to not longer stimulate natural thyroid hormone production, will serum thyroid levels reflect further increases in thyroid medication and start to relieve symptoms.
What were your test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report that caused your doctor to prescribe thyroid med. Just type them in, with the reference ranges shown in parentheses. What, if any, symptoms did you have before starting on the med? What is your daily dose? If tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, please post those also.
