Armour vs. Synthroid

Hi everone.......I just joined today. I was diagnosed in Jan. 2010 with hypo. by my primary Doc. my TSH levels were 5ish. being put on Synthroid I went down to 1.8 on 100 mcg. I finally was sent to an endo.( after requesting thyro and Tpo antibodies be tested etc. the basics which they had not done) I have not met my Endo. yet i was seen by his Asst. which i convinced to switch me to Armour. She put me on 90 mg (11/2 grains). On week 2 of the Armour I hit rock bottem ....could not move. Extreme fatigue, muscle pain etc. AWFUL. Went for a blood test and came back .23 my free t3s elevated. Apparently I was hyper.....it felt the same as hypo? Anyhow, My primary was pretty offended i went to another Dr. and switched meds. He suggested i had done too much researcha nd that I might come across as a "problematic patient" wow. He left me on the same dose and brushed me off to go go see the Endo, but thats at the end of the month. Sooooooo somebody help. IS THIS NEW ARMOUR worth it, or should Igo back to the Synthroid. by the way i did have antithyroglobulin anti high (300s) and the TPOs were normal but they  were there. What does that mean.....thanks.

The antibodies you have are Hashimoto's, and it doesn't particularly matter which med as long as it works for you. No one med is better than the other, must which works best for you.
But, personally speaking as Stella did, I too am not a fan of Armour due to all the changes in reformulation without FDA approval.

How about the antibodies....what does that mean? What do you recommend as far as the meds.? Thanks.

I am just not a big fan of what they did to the Armour thyroid medication and really in the research area of adding the MCC that they did ( which is what T4 Synthroid is compiled with too) I feel that filler is the problem for many and labs can falsely read things that truely are not right.

Hi and Thank you for taking the time. Ok if my serves me right.....On the synthroid I had THS of 1.8 and i was taking approx. 100 mg. I did not feel great but I functioned. Unfortunatley, I was the one requesting labs etc. to primary .....they put on only 25 mg when this started in Jan. Anyhow, My anitbodies antithyroglubin were high 373, and I had "Normal" TPO of 24(cut off of the lab is >than 34). I requested a ultrasound and they found a solid nodule 8x8mm. I was not able to meet the endo. I found but I convinced his assistant to switch me to Armour. They put me on 11/2 grains. approx 4 weeks ago. two into the change Literally could not even walk......EXTREME fatigue, muscle aches crying etc. I actually met with my Ins. agent I thought it was the end. I thought I was going Hypo again with a vengance.....I went in for my labs to do the FNA.....and I came back with a THS of .023 and my t3s 186 (71-18o range). t4 7.1 ((4.5-12.) Let me mention they were not able to do the FNA. No nodule found? Great news.....So now I just dont know which med to take. and have no idea what I have. ?????I have an Appt. with the endo. for the first time last week of August. Sorry to hit you with all this info. but I am really confused. Hopefully you have some insight on this. Thanks. Here are my Labs : THS .023       (.450-4.50)

                                                                                                    T3   186 high  (70-180)

                                                               antithyroglobulin 373     (0-40)     TPO 24    (0-34)

I don't like the New formula and I really hit rock bottom on it too after they switched. I know you mentioned the labs you had done with the T3's and 4's

Can you post them so I can see the actual results?

Welcome and Good Luck
