My FNA last week left me with some soreness in my throat area as the radiology nurse said it was because the nodule was so close to my carotid artery and voicebox!
Lucky MEEE!
But in general, FNA's are painless!
While, I was leaning towards "sure, 6 weeks should be fine" until I read your last line.
Yeah, your odds changed with that one.
I personally haven't had a FNA but there are lots here who have (and two of my sisters) and FNAs can be performed by (some) endocrinologists, cytologists, pathologists, surgeons, or ENTs.
Talk to your doctor who ordered the ultrasound and see if he/she can order the FNA. That way you'll have results (hopefully) by the time you see your endo. I've found it's often faster to get test results than it is to get in to see a doctor.
Also remember, endos don't do the surgery, if that is what is warranted, so you might want to ask for referrals for a surgeon just so you are ready to go.
What type of cancer did your mother have?
Utahmomma
papillary carcinoma '03 and three sisters with it too
Sorry, I meant to say that I sent a message to CHRIS1235 not Hichigirl - Sorry!
I have posted a message to you. Cheers. :)
I would try to be seen sooner since thryoid cancer runs in your family. Did you bring it up with your doctor already?
You have an assymetrical gland which is not good. The left lobe is heterogenous--it would be homogenous if the terrain was all alike in that area. It does not show a mass or cyst, but it is enlarged most likely. It could just be inflamed.
The right lobe is also heterogenous because it has nodules of various sizes.
March 6 is far away--try to get in sooner. Call the people doing the biopsies and ask them if they can fit you in if there is a cancellation--or press your doctor to get you in there--or at another place.
Don't freak out or anything--they could be benign and you may have nothing to worry about.
If you have to wait until March 6, then relax and think positive thoughts. Your mother had it, but that does not mean that you will have it too.
Take Care.
