Change doctors.
There are certain things that are really hard to find. Good Key Lime pie and a good doctor.
Thanks the carman,
I just feel as though it has been so long that I have been struggling with my anxiety that I might go a while feeling fine. Then all of a sudden like recently around the time I found out I was hypo I started having bad anxiety again. To be honest I just don't have much faith anymore in seeing the doctor b/c it seems I never get any answers:(
Five years on Effexor.......might be time to add another drug with it or change it completely. My PCP says it all voodoo! He gives it his best guess and then asks a bunch of "how ya feelin'" questions. Adjust from what he hears......your head knows, you just have to give them all the information that you can.
The wonders of modern medicine!
I am about to go on synthroid and certainly don't like hearing the above that anxiety can be a side effect. I have anxiety now and am going on the synthroid to feel better not worse. I have been on levothryoxine for about 2 years at 37.5 mg. He is putting me on the same about of synthroid.
I had anxious stomach this am and haven't had that for a long time. I haven't started on the synthroid yet but did increase the antidepressant doxipin which is synaquan (spelling?). Anybody know anything about this?
Also got a good not that I haven't taken protonix for a few days and no problems with my stomach. I have estatic over that. I have been stick ing to the celiac diet except over the week end I ate a tiny piece of our anniversary cake - I mean miniscule l" square.

I am going to the doctor today because I can't stand how I feel on 50mg - i feel so anxious and not myself and my muscles ache.
Thanks,
I have been on effexor for about 5 years now. If I take any higher of a dose then my anxiety actually gets worse.
I want to thank everyone for being so great with taking the time to respond.
How long you been on the Effexor? One of the guys at work is on it and there was some ramp up time. He was a new guy in about 10 days.
I would talk to whoever gave you that prescription. You may have to adjust the dose or chnage meds. It's kind of a trial and error. That drug has a good track record.
Thank u for the replies,
Yes I have had general anxiety for about 5 years now. But it seems to have gottne worse.I'm taking 50mcg of synthroid, and my tsh was at 9. I'm due for bloodwork in a week or so. I just can't deal with this horrible anxiety I'm getting:(
Hi Mia,
My endocronologist prescribed me synthroid, and during the time of the visit, he said if the medication makes me feel, jumpy, nervous, anxious, to immediately stop taking it, and let him know, medication is too strong, and he would have to adjust.
Also anti-psych meds, can cause increased anxieties, as your system becomes more tolerant to the medications, depends how long you've been taken them. I've had experiences with anti-pych meds, causing the very exact symptoms your describing, reason I got off the meds, hope you feel better, good luck to you.
I am not sure, but I read the precautions for synthroid and they say that certain anti-depressants can cause a hyper-sensitivity. I would look there. Just be aware that docs are great for say "no, its not a medication problem." Those little pocket computers always say "No Contradictions," but the manufacturer of the medication will say different. hope this helps.
Did you have anxiety before starting Synthroid?
Perhaps you are still hypo and it is causing the anxiety, not the meds.
Or your dose is too high. What dose are you on and what was the original TSH?
When are you due for repeat TSH, etc? 6 weeks is the usual follow up time for bloodwork.
I also suggest calling your doctor.
I am on synthroid - i have noticed swelling in my legs and muscle pain. I did look up the drug and it says it causes anxiety for the side effects. I would check with my regular doctor if I were you.
