Blood Pressure - probably nothing, but wanted to check

Hey all I think I have a really stupid question.  What is the significance of a change in blood pressure?  I used to have really stable blood pressure, almost always 120/80.  When I got my life insurance eval, the blood pressure recorded (she did 3) was always in the 90s (top) and 60s (bottom).  Yesterday, when I reported for my breast biopsy, that was cancelled, by blood pressure was 90something of 60.

I do take Levothyroxine and my blood values for thyroid and every other thing have always been normal.  I have a swelling thyroid with no known cause, larger on the right and it is heterogeneous.

What could a change in blood pressure mean, if anything?

Hugs and snuggles to all! ~Kim

My blood pressure is just like yours! I used to be ~120/88 or something, but now I'm around 98/65. I thought this was significant--or at least a clue--in figuring out what was wrong with me since this was a significant drop in pressure that has remained constant. But of course, the doctors don't seem to care.

My guess would be that if your heart rate has increased like mine, it did so either from  vasodilation (widening/dilating of veins/arteries to allow for an increased volume of blood to pass through) or chemical changes (i.e. presence of a beta-blocker, for example). The blood pressure drops in order to to compensate for the increased heart rate so as to maintain the same cardiac output, or CO. In its most basic sense, this can be viewed as a math problem--cardiac output = stroke volume x heart rate--except we don't know exactly what is affecting the stroke volume and/or heart rate to begin with...I'd venture a guess that it's our thyroids...but that's just me. :)

Sorry if that was confusing; I'm just pleased to demonstrate that I learned something from the anatomy & physiology courses I took lol...

I may have asked you this before. Why can't they just remove your thyroid, I mean it is giving you so many problems that bloodwork will not find. You know your body, would you want it out if you could,

Hi.  I have been on BP med's for a long time for high blood pressure.  A couple months before starting on levoT my bp started to drop.   Since starting thyroid meds I have been noticing fluctuations where it is dropping more than usual.

I would ask your doctor about the change in pressure though.  It seems that thyroid issues seem to go along with heart, sugar and vitamin and mineral issues.

I'm not sure if it is caused from hypothyroidism itself or the meds you take for it.  Just my 2 cents.  Take care;  Amy
