Things people say

My mother who is on thyroxine herself, after being diagnosed with, and I quote; "I don't know what it's called", has told me not to take multivitamins while I am on thyroxine. I scratched my head and asked why? "I read it somewhere" I have Hashimoto's disease and had TT on Dec 14 2007.  I am aware to not take other meds with my itty bitty tablets, but has anyone else seen or read anything about NOT taking multi-vitamins? I continue merrily taking them of course, later in the day. I really would like to prove her wrong!

Yes, I agree. My mum is one of those types who reads things and totally misinterprets it all. Bit like that game Chinese Whispers, where one person whispers something like, "My dog loves playing ball" then 20 people later the message is "How I love to scratch my balls!" Hee hee. Hope your hair stays put, mine is still falling out, but being summer here I really don't mind that too much!

She probably just heard the part about not taking the vitamins too close to the thyroid med, and thought it meant don't take vitamins at all.

There are also some foods you should either avoid or eat sparingly as they too will affect the absorption of your thyroid med. Google for more info, or read past posts here.

Hee hee, thanks so much....now I can print this out and say,"Nyah, told ya so. Mum!" I won't be too brutal on her, but she epitomises how people get information wrong and end up with more problems than they know about! Glad I joined this group.

You're absolutely correct!  The sheet that the doc sent home with me after prescribing the Levoxyl said just that - to wait at least 4 hours after taking the thyroid meds to take vitamins.  I think you're going to prove her wrong this time!!

You're right on track.  Take your "itty bitty" pill in the morning and everything else at night.  The medical people recommend 4 hours seperation - especially with calcium.  It's IMPORTANT for us to take our multivitamins!!

I take thyroid meds in the morning and vitamins at night--no problems staying in the normal range.
