My dreaded appointment was this morning, didn't sleep much last night!
I was amazed as there was a whole team there including the surgeon who did my PT. The Oncologist was very positie and she said that given the small size of the cancer found and the fact that the MPC they found was 'incidental' and found during routine biopsy after the removal of the larger nodule, they have decided against removing the remainder of my thyroid. I will have a scan of the other thyroid lobe next week to look again for anything unusual, any more small 'cold' nodules, etc. but in their opinion, if all looks ok then I am 'released'! They will hand me back to the Endo to be monitored.
She said to try to look at it as like a 'pre-cancerous' state. It was so small and totally contained that the likelyhood of them finding anything else in the other lobe is tiny. I guess this is good news.
The only numbers they gave me were a TSH of 2.49, (I am in the UK), which they say is good and means that the reminder of my thyroid is working at the moment. I have signs of 'thyroiditis' and therefore will probably, in their opinion need meds at some stage, but not yet. the Endo will now keep an eye on that. He wasn't there today but will meet with him in hte next fortnight.
On the one hand I feel so relieved that the rest of the thyroid is staying - on the other it is bringing up a few more questions which no doubt I will post here! I will finally breath the HUGE sigh of relief after the scan next week.
Sending BIG thankyous out to all of you who have been here for me over the last few weeks - I hope I can return the favour with my head clearer now.
Regards to all
