Calcium Levels

I had a total thyroidectomy and central dissection for papillary thyroid cancer on 16th December, my calcium levels I believe only one parathyroid gland was saved.  My calcium went down to 1.8, (IV infusion as tingling) then 2.04, 2.03 (discharged with supplements here) 7 days after op it was up to 2.08.  I am taking vit d (1.5mcg per day and 6 x 400 sandcal per day + 3 x 20mcg thyroxine - I am exhausted - is this normal? (now 12 days on) am expected top return to work very soon. Post op assessment appointment not through yet (expected 3 wks after op) any advice appreciated, I also need to have iodine radiotherapy in 6 weeks.

Hi, pain wise I could swallow quite well after a couple of days but has taken at least 8 days for me to be able to turn neck comfortably (keep taking the paracetamol).  I was signed off work for three weeks so won't be returning until next week at least.  I am sooooo tired but don't really know why.  I know my surgery sounds more extensive but imagine you will still be feeling quite vulnerable?  Everyday the pain eases - will your dressings be off by Monday?  Remember if you go back everyone will expect you to be ready to work and if you go off again at short notice it willbe much harder for your colleagues than if a supply teacher was arranged now.  Good luck.

Hi

Just had left thyroid out yesterday and had a lot of pain, sore throat last night. It was a day surgery. I am a teacher so I decided to do this now, but I am worried that I might not feel well enough to return to work on Monday. How do you feel pain-wise?
