Chernobyl radiation - thyroid problems at 21

I've been diagnosed with sub clinical hypothyroidism and was then sent to get a thyroid ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a diffusely mildly inhomogeneous thyroid gland with the right lobe larger than the left and a small colloid nodule in the right lobe. the nodule measures about 0.5x0.2 cm. My TSH levels were around 7.34 in my blood test last month and after taking vitamin b12, D and iron has been reduced to a normal level of 4.79. It has gone up and down several times in the past two years. I started testing my thyroid two years ago after reading about the correlation between panic attacks and the thyroid. I've had panic attacks for several years now and they are triggered by a swelling sensation in my throat.
My doctor told me on a recent visit that this is not alarming yet and I should get another ultrasound in four months. But when I told her I am originally from Belarus she referred me to a specialist for a better follow up.

I'm very concerned but don't want to read about it anymore myself since I get scared but I wanted to know if anyone has a similar experience or any advice on the matter?

Thank you
P

Hi, 898_1 I was wondering which studies you are referring to when you say:
"according to the studies the children who were born in 1988 and later were not affected by the RAI contaminats released during Chernobyl explosion. most kids were exposed in 1986 after drinking the I-131contaminated milk.the highest number of cancers wre detected at least contaminated areas where most milk were consumed.Among the population exposed to I-131 as a small kids under age of 5 about 20 % had thyroid abnormalitiesby the age of 20 (heterogeneous echotexture on ultrasound)"
Thanks! I appreciate your expertise.

Hi,
This is my first time to this site, so I hope you get this message. I just had a blood test come back and have been referred for an ultrasound. I am scheduled for Monday.
I spent part of my childhood in Germany (on an American army base) and lived there during the Chernobyl disaster. My mother has told me that I should pass this information along to my doctor.
How are you? I see your message is from Feb so I hope your recovery is going well. Was the specialist helpful?
Feel free to email me ***@**** to continue this conversation.
Hope all is well,
Pixie
