The Face of Thyroid Disease

Finally got my latest labs in.

On 114.3 mcgs.

TSH 2.75  (0.35-5.50)
FT4 20.0   (9.0-25.0)
FT3   4.0   (3.5-6.5)

6 weeks ago on same dose;
TSH  1.21 (same ref ranges)
FT4   16.0
FT3     3.2

12 weeks ago on 110.7mcgs
TSH   7.81
FT4    14.9
FT3      3.1

Now 6 weeks prior to that last test, on 110.7mcgs
TSH  11.99
FT4    16.4
FT3     2.6

etc etc.... You can see the lot since I had the TT 3 years ago in my pics.

You can see I am all over the place with my levels.
Now this time, my doc says, Oh good you are within normal now.  I said that I was experiencing hyper and hypo symptoms. Hyper in thoughts and energy levels and my period is much lighter, hypo in tiredness and unable to bounce back from exertion, and my weight won't budge. He said, That's weird, since your TSH is right in the middle. I said, Well, that's ALWAYS hypo for me! I need to be down under 1.0 or there abouts to feel ok, and have my T3 up higher....
Still asking the question of my raised antibodies affecting my levels and my revolting symptoms.

I have Hashimoto's disease, even though my thyroid is removed surgically, I am feeling just as bad as before surgery.
If you haven't seen my photo,  have a look in my pics, the one taken on Jan 2 2010.  Do I look 'normal' to you? This is why it is so hard to get the help we need, I look 'normal' every other day, as I rest for to to 3 hours a day, and do only what I can, when I can. When I do more than usual, I end up looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards.

BTW, I am having lots of little veins popping and bursting for no reason. I wonder why? I used to get them happening alot pre-thyroidectomy. I rubbed my toe the other day and BAM!  blood vessel popped, now a massive bruise. Went to close my car door, BAM! One popped on the middle finger. Man they HURT!

So there you go. The lastest labs!

Sally I am just outside of Melbourne. Not many endo's here!

I did an adrenal saliva test when I was in USA in 2009 and showed the doctors here my VERY low cortisol which was all day with minimal rise in evening. They told it was not valid. I am however, looking online at a New Zealand company for a new test. Mind you they send it from NZ you send it back then they send it to Pathlab which is on my side of town! But unless a doc here orders it, that's the way I have to do it.

I am now willing to travel if a good endo is available!

Been sleeping pretty much all day today. Bleurgh.

Have your adrenals been checked properly?  Which city are you in?  My sisters are in Brisbane and have found a great doctor.

The blood pressure dropping when you stand up could be adrenal, I think....

Obviously there is something wrong and that something should be properly checked out.

Any possibility of ordering from overseas?

I have been on this board for quite a while and most know of my banging my head against a brick wall story of not being able to get T3 supplement here in Australia. Most doctors disagree with giving it at all, most don't believe in it and I can't import it as it needs a doctor's prescription. Only a few compounding pharmacies in my town ( as big as Seattle) and one of them has a 'doctor' I could only describe as being from the jungles of Papua Nui Guinea! Flaming hard to get treated correctly I can tell you!

It's an ongoing saga for me. Free T4 is fine, but the TSH should NOT be going up into the higher numbers again.

I am feeling at a point of total collapse, I can barely walk anymore and my legs are aching badly. My head is spinning, my blood pressure drops when I get up. I reckon I will just konk out in public and get dragged away....let's see what happens then!

Ha ha, blab away!
Yep, some docs check me out thoroughly and others just take the Pap test and send me on my way.
My mother had whatever stage Cervical cancer, when she was my age, I was around 25. My cousin, my mother's sister's daughter had it too, about 2 years after my Mum. This cousin just had a total hysterectomy for heavy bleeding, I asked her if she had her thyroid levels checked (she's a nurse) and she said, No I just wanted the bleeding to stop! Homer Simpson moment:- D'Oh!!!!!!!

I wish they would do US at Pap test time too, but having read up about it, it is one of those things that just can't be detected easily. BUT I reckon they WOULD find some incidentally and THAT can't be a bad thing!

I read this and it just bugs me about thyroidains also have mass or cyst on our ovaries?
WHY and do mosr dr's know to check womans Ovarys when they have thyroid diseases?
I had a PAP and was told everything was fine. 1 month later had a ultra sound on my bladder and they found the mass on my Ovary. So you go for your PAP as needed and they do not even check for Ovarain cancer or mass i just do not get it!! if ov cancer is so high in woman why don't they do a quick ultra sound with every pap that would save alot of lifes. The one I had in the office was quick and easy ane they seen it in one sec. I think they should have one in every exam room and check your ovary's so they can stop ov. cancer from killing so many woman. I am just glad my are gone and i do not have to worry about it any more. I had cervical cancer in 1987 and have lifed in fear of it coming back. So anyhow iam blabbing to much so bla bla bla LOL

UGH! I am right there with you too on the ovary issues. I have also had recent cyst on them. Now I have been hurting with pains that all I can describe is stabbing pains up inside me. I also am feeling like it could be my bladder or kidneys too. There definitly is a connection with thyroid issues and female issues. I have appointment today. Hope you feel better too.

How about a combo of T4 & T3, at least that is what I heard can help a lot. Stay on the current dosage you are taking for T4, just add some T3. I know your T3 is normal, but really don't how else doctors handle those sensetive to the T4.

I took 200mcg for 10yrs, then slowly went down on dosage as I grew older & got off the birth control pill. Now I have been on 125mcg for about 6 yrs.

Feel for you on the ovary...I had an ovary removed two years ago due to a huge complex cyst. I still get cysts on my right, but those are manageable as far as pain goes.

The funny thing is Totie, the higher the dose, the more my levels go skewiff. That's where the problem lies. They sneak up and up and then I drop down then I still go up and up. My FT4 is going up, so any more thyroxine I will go hyper..already feeling hyper symptoms! But that feedback loop is caught up somewhere.
FT4 of 20.0 is showing at least I AM taking my hormone. Without a thyroid, this is just the level to show my dose is high. BUT the TSH is slow to pick up there IS thyroxine in my system. Then for some weird reason, after a few more weeks on this dose, I will find my FT4 will start to rise, but my TSH will not go under 1.0, where as previously, it would always do that, and they would lower my dose and I would STILL go UP and be hyper!  Catch 22 at the moment.

Been on 125mcgs before and I ended up with Psychiatric Triage! I am super sensitive to the hormone! So I am not prepared to go back there!

The lab in Australia is now incorporated with a few other labs and they aren't changing their ref ranges. PFFFFT!!!!

The other thing is, my right ovary is doing its stabbing and slight bleed again. Which is PAINFUL! I think I need to go see the doc and get that sorted. Probably got another large ovarian cyst.

I think he needs to up your medication. The lab is not using the new guidelines for the TSH ranges. .3-3.0.

My doctor and I both agree to always keep my TSH (yes, that is all they go by here), under 1.0 since i have had a TT (16yrs ago).

Could you suggest 125mcg to see if your symptoms go away? I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your doctor, but can't hurt to ask. Tell him to humor you and up it just a tad to see what happens.

In your last pic, you look exhausted! You ~have~ to hang in there, as you're my new thyroid "life line"! I have noticed I have a few more grey hairs after my TT, did you by chance have that one?

I hope you start feeling better...and your family starts pitching in...because us thyroidees need the extra Ooomph!

Thanks Nat! I think with my Reverse T3 levels being high having 4.0 is still like not having the engine running, so I feel cr@p!  But of course, docs here don't 'believe' in it to start with.
