Cysts and Nodules...Thyroid

I have results back from an ultrasound and will coordinate an appointment with an endocrinologist tomorrow via my MD.  I am nervous.  The results from the Ut read as follows..."The left lobe of the thyroid is 4.9 x 1.7 x 1.1 cm in size.  In the midpole region there is a 9 x 6 ,,heterogeneous solid appearing circumscribed nodule.  With doppler, this demonstrates prominent internal vascularity.  Remainder the left lobe appears normal.  The isthmus of the hyroid appears normal.  The right lobe of the gland is 4.5 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm in size.  There is 4 x 5 mm heterogenous circumscribed lesion midpole of the right lobe which demonstrates moderate internal vascularity.  There is a 2 mm cyst in the medial right lobe near the isthmus."  In 2005, I felt a pea size lump under my collar bone not long after I had my small pox vaccination prior to my year tour in Korea.  This is documented in my records.  We were told to report any abnormalities we noticed with our body.  I was told it was no big deal and sent on my way.  Here we are now.  Can anyone enlighten me on any of the above information?

Thanks so much for your responses.  I took a vacation, which was far overdue and today, my first day back is my endocrinologist appointment, among other items.  You are both aiding me in composing my list of questions for him/her.

I have not had the blood tests, but I will inquire about.

I recently discovered on vacation that my Aunt had a severe issue with her thyroid, which was reverted back to normal with medication.  The hormones emitted were a lack of and her face became swollen, she suffered fatigue and several other items.  She is 73 and went back to work as a nurse in the ER after she felt better.  She said once the meds began, she became a normal person.  Her daughter, my cousin has thyroid issues also.

I am hoping today will help, but my consistency with the VA is 50% currently.  I like to try to remain with optimism at my wheel and let negativity ride in the back.  When the system fails, I go to our patient advocate who finds me a doctor to help. :)  I am a fighter and survivor.   I refuse them not test and help find ailments.  Squeeky wheel gets the grease.  Their lack of doing this actually brought this about.  I had a fluke accident with a grill lid which I landed in the Urgent Care; one CAT scan later showed the cyst on my thyroid.

There are certain situations in which iodine is contraindicated, as it can actually create more trouble.

Many of us have nodules on our thyroid and often they are nothing to worry about.  I, personally, have quite a few on my thyroid.  As long as they don't get larger or cause issues, they are left alone. Nodules are consistent with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and/or Graves Disease.

Vascularity indicates blood flow.  We have a member who is pretty much an expert with ultrasound results; hopefully, he will see this and respond.

Have you had any thyroid blood tests done, such as TSH, Free T3, Free T4 and antibody testing? If so, please post those results, so members can further assess your situation.

I was told by my doctor that lack of iodine can result in cysts. Certainly true with me. But since taking iodine I have no new ones. The ones I have seem to be shrinking, but I am not sure yet. The iodine removed my fatigue.
