Synthroid is T4 meds
Cytomel is T3 meds
You won't find T4 Cytomel.
Dear Barb and others
Yep I am splitting the tabs but what a job. Since I am in Hong Kong and have no compounding pharmacy and no Cytomel that can be purchased here - obtained a scipt from my dr and found PharmacyEscrow.com a Canadian pharmacy that will ship to Hong Kong for me and will allow me to purchase from them online - it was on their site that I found the following - thus Cytomel t4 is called Synthroid.
Looking for Cytomel t4? We carry both Cytomel t3 and t4 (also known as synthroid) - Order both today!
They have generic T3 in 12.5mcg and in 20mcg. The brandname in 25mcg. Since the one I have now is 20mcg but a generic version of Cytomel called Tri Tre - just wondered if I would do better on going for the brand name rather than the generic. Then thought perhaps it may be better to use the T 3 and separate T4 of Cytomel and that then will be the T3 Cytomel and the T4 called Synthroid.
It is the splitting of the tab that is a problem for me as they seem to crumble when I split them up - this is the generic version called Tri Tre. Will have my new lab work on Tuesday or Wednesday this week and the tests for the T1, T2 dominance and others were sent to a lab in the USA. Will take 11 working days to get those results back.
Cheers to all and thanks
You are right, it doesn't come in 2.5 mcg; so she would have to be splitting it.
do you mean 25 mcg of cytomel or are you splitting the 5 mcg don t think it comes in 2.5. also, cytomel/liothyronine is only t3 med as far as i know.
Cytomel is the name brand for synthetic T3 med. Synthroid is a name brand for synthetic T4 med.
Some people do better taking the name brands; however, some of us do fine on the generics. Still others do better on T4/T3 combo, dessicated, such as Armour, NatureThroid, etc. I'm on both T3 and T4 med, both generic and doing well.
Do you have symptoms? If so, what are they? What are your latest test results? Can you post them along with the lab's reference ranges?
Honey - no - not sure where you see T4/Cytomel.
Cytomel or generic T3 only - Cytomel has no connection to any T4 medications.
