Cytomel for hypothyroidsm

Hi,
I met a lady at the gym last week who happens to have thyroid disorder as well. She is hypo, however she looks great, she told me she used to have a hard time loosing weight even exercise daily. Her doctor precribed Cytomel at low dose with Synthroid and she said she started loosing weight easier. I heard a lot of hypo patients complain of weight gain or unable to loose weight, but don't hear much of patient taking Cytomel. Is there a reason why doctors don't prescribe Cytomel much? I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger. If anyone has experiences with Cytomel, your input is greatly appreciated.

My endo- a Top Doc- will add Cytomel if a patient is still symptomatic despite an "adequate dose and good labs".

Not many doctors are willing to rx it. I agree that free t3 levels should be checked prior to and during therapy with Cytomel.

I am thinking of going back to the Levo/Cytomel combo my doc first perscribed me.  If only to relieve the arthritis and bloating symptoms I get from the T4 only drug...  He is a highly respected endo in the "thyroid" field!

I was perscribed the "combo" post TT for cancer.  After trying the "combo" for a few months, and having some problems sleeping, I went to Synthroid only... (the name brand gig... yada yada yada)... I wanted to try converting my own T4!  I immediately had a HUGE arthritis onset in my hip joint... (where there was never an issue b4) and basically EVERYWHERE else.  It truely sucked to sit, then "try" to get up...  Also the BLOAT (I made that caps, because mine was and still is really BIG...) is killing me.  My feet, my boobs, even my hands... I'm trying the Vit D/Calcium combo for the low Vit D, but this s^cks!

I'm now on Levoxyl and doing only slightly better, but I'm still considering hucking the sleep idea entirely...(with kids who gets to sleep anyways?...) and going back to the non-puffy, without arthritis.."me"...

I actually lost weight when I was hypo for RAI.  Now, on Levoxyl at a TSH of .37 (or whatever "low-ness" for cancer supression I'm currently at...)  ~Not so much~.

It's different for everyone.  And, as my "wise sister" would say... "We all have our *Journey* to take..."   Mine just seems to include bloating, cancer and arthritis...  And truely S^CKS!  :-/

Good luck with "your" journey...

There are some people taking Synthroid and Cytomel.

A few that post here do. I don't know what it's like taking it or if it helps people that have a good Free T3 level already.

It will be interesting to see the responses you get.

Hi, I asked my dr about this med and he said it was something prescribed back in the stone age.

I do know some people take it. I take armour which has the T3 in it. I don't know if pts on armour take any cytomel supplementation.

Are you on Armour or synthroid? When was your last lab values? If recently do you know what they are? Sometimes, the med has to raised a bit to increase the metabolism.
