Hey kimmie, I left you a note. I hope you get it, as I don't trust this computer, I live in the country an I have dial up. Yes, there are places that believe in the dark ages and have yet too up grade. Go Figure. Anyways, I had my Thyroid removed 8 yrs. ago, and my hair has thinned to nothing as well. It is very sad and makes you desperate for answers an information to a remedy. I've heard that this is one of the down falls to no thyroid. Only I refuse to give in. I'm gonna keep do research, an I will share any info that I get with you. I'm ready to start looking at wigs on the PC. Just joking I hope it doesn't come to that. Don't get to down, you'll loose more hair. I know I did. I have alot of salon damage as well, only lately I seem to be loosing more hair than normal, so that's why I got to this forum today. Then there was you.....Good Luck to you......
My daughter went through the same thing. How long has it been since they "killed" your thyroid with the iodine? Her hair is very thin and she has to find ways to hide it (she's 24), but it took several years after being 'zapped' to get the loss to subside. As helen said it could be the medicine itself. Sorry I couldn't help more. I would ask the doctor about meds that may promote hair growth (if there are such things).
i am on synthroid 100mcg, when i was on 75, my blood work is in the range, actually my dc said one is a bit high(not sure which one, didn't see her yet)...however, i felt horrible, and hair loss. i decided to raise to 100mcg, i should say, i am still not myself yet, but much better and the hair condition improved a bit. i know either you are hypo, or hyper, you will all have the hair issue. not sure if this helps you. also i started to take Vit B complex, Vit D, Calcium, Primrose evening oil when i raised to 100mcg, so maybe it's those suppliments are actually helping?
also i read a lot on internet, also heard from friends here, that synthroid itself can cause hair loss for some patient, and they are doing better on Armour..... again, case by case....i am looking into switching to Armour to give it a shot. perhaps you want to mention that to your Dr as well?
all the best.
