So from what I've read, thyroid glandulars must have the T4 removed in order to be sold as a supplement however there appears to be varying amounts of T3. I didn't know they remove the T4.
Use of Over-the-Counter Thyroid Support Pills is Risky, Mayo Clinic Researcher Finds
http://www.mayoclinic.org/news2011-jax/6514.html
The researchers bought 10 commercially available thyroid supplements from stores or websites and used high-pressure liquid chromatography to separate and identify the chemical components of T3 and T4. Nine of the 10 contained T3 and five of them would deliver as much, or more, than 50 percent of the total amount of T3 produced by the body daily.
I've not heard of that to be honest. I did find an OTC thyroid product called Nutri-Meds but they are labelled as a "Porcine Desiccated Thyroid Glandular"
What is one more name to add to the list eh? :)
OK because as I understand it dessicated thyroid is powdered thyroid and an otc supplement is an extract but of low potency so I wondered if a powder and an extract are the same thing or different.
Desiccated thyroid, thyroid extract, desiccated thyroid extract = same thing.
