What does lab numbers mean?

How do I determine the lab numbers and find out what is actually wrong.  My endo initially thought Graves and changed his mind after the third set of labs, US and 24 hour uptake and scan.  My second opinion from an endo stated mild graves... Now I'm really lost... I took the I-131 treatment already and wondering if this is something I should have done.

A friend of mine recently had two tests. One was the AFP (Alpha-fetoprotein) blood test and the other was the CA-125. Her results indicate the following:

AFP TEST                  RESULTS                    REFERENCE/VALUES
Patient's Value           1.56     IU/mL                upto 5.8    IU/mL

TUMOUR MARKER REPORT

TEST             NORMAL VALUE          UNIT         RESULT

CA-125           UPTO 35.00                  U/mL          29.7

Can anyone tell me what this means??? im no doctor so i need a thorough yet simple explanation of each field and values as it is very confusing for me. I would be very grateful if anybody could get back to me asap. Thank you.

Your prier levels relates to hyperthyroidism, but I am not the doctor.

A person can be hyperthyroid without any of the above that you mentioned.  Just plain ole hyperthyroidism. One can be hyperthyroid without having Graves', but, one can not be Graves' without having hyperthyroid.

In Graves' disease it is the hyper side that is being treated via regulating the thyroid levels.  There is no cure nor treatment for Graves'.  Graves' Disease is autoimmune via the immune system and science has not found the actual cause, cure or treatment for auto/immune diseases.

Hyperthyroidism treatment(s) is the same as Graves' Disease treatment(s).

You are still early in RAI treatment.

The labs are before RAI and the nodules are hot.   never been on meds prior to RAI.
endo dr did put me on atenolol  before RAI and thats it

I did the RAI on Dec 28 07

Dodes the hyperthyroidism have to have a given name... such as graves, plummer, thryroidis or is it the hyperthyroidsm alone being treated

Thank you for responding

Happy New Year !

When did you do RAI and are you on meds./what dose/which brand????

Did your nodules show as being hot nodules?

Are these test/levels before or after RAI, if after, how long after??

It doesn't matter treatment wise if you are Graves', its the hyperthroidism/levels that would be the concern and for treatent (of RAI).
