I am a kidney stone/infection "expert" here on the board .. unfortunately I have produced and passed quite a few stones over the past few years.

Is your infection in the kidney or upper/lower urinary tract?  What meds are you on for it?

Could the pain be renal colic ... could you have a stone they don't know about?  Have you been tested for any stones or ever had symptoms before to prompt them to ask or check?

I don't know of thyroid and kidney infection/stone problems UNLESSSSSSSS you have parathyroid problems and ARE PRODUCING too much calcium and they can transform themselves into calcium oxalate stones and it isn't good.  They can do parathyroid testing and 24hr urine and blood to test for calcium levels and production above and beyond routine calcium bloodwork done after thyroid surgery .. my Endo ran tons of tests to r/o my stones had anything to do with my kidneys.

Did they do a culture?  A culture will be specific for which antibiotic works the best ..... Cipro usually works for me but this time they put me on Levaquin.

Lower back pain can be assoc with a bad urinary tract (usually lower) infection or stone or anything in that dept.

Parathyroids are comprehensively tested thru bloodwork in tests that were pretty high level and beyond me being able to fully understand .. but I know I had 11 .. yes 11 vials drawn on my first Endo appt and a large portion of those were to r/o kidney stones and my thryoid ......

Unless you test positive thru culture or dipstick for active infection most likely you will be ok for surgery.

I passed a stone 12 days post op and then a few of them 9 weeks post op and I am feeling great .. but this is NOT THE NORM ... it was just me LOL!!!!

My sister in law who is BCMSMOM on the board posted in mid Feb about her thyroid and a large nodule that was pressing on her trachea!!!  She had it out and it is benign and she can breathe with ease again ... they were afraid it would choke her to death it was sooooo large!

Glad to help anytime .. I am not a thyroid expert by any means .. all my stuff started in thyroid with a routine appt in October and the rest is history .. they found a small lump on my thyroid during routine exam!!!!
