Do you feel good or bad on Synthroid vs. Armour?

Hi, I'm was taking Synthroid but changed to Armour.  I thought I would feel better on Armour, as many people said it's wonderful, but it's not happening.  I'm considering changing back to Synthroid.  Will be having labs done the end of the Month.
Does anyone have opinons?

How long were you on Synthroid?

How long have you been taking Armour?

What dosage was the Synthroid -- and now the Armour dosage?

Explain what is going on? Like how you are feeling. Compare your symtpoms to us using both Synthroid and Armour?  How did you feel on both meds?

Where were your labs at prior to your switch?  Are you being tested for the Free T3 and T4?

Hi there.  I've been on Synthroid since being diagnosed in June 08.  I'm still not feeling up to par, but I think that's just because my levels are not optimal for me yet.  My PCP has been less than receptive to any other treatment possibilities and I will be seeing an endo at the end of Jan.

Well,

I tried both now on and off for about 6months since ive been DX and i dont like either. I think i might be allergic to thyroid.Thyroid meds make me feel spaced out and dizzy. Why, no one can tell me yet.Im still trying to get answers from doctors who dont seem to care.I have felt ok on armour the most if i had to pick one or the other though.

Hi,

I take a combination of Dessicated (same as armour) and Thyroxine (T4).  Works well for me.  I didn't feel so good just on the T4.

However, everyone feels different and there is not a one size fits all for thyroid meds. Some people love armour, for some it makes no difference.  Some do great on just T4 and some don't.  Important is to make sure that your thyroid levels are optimal.  TSH for most should be around 1. (0.5 - 2.0 range if you are on replacement), and FT3 an FT4 should be at least mid normal range, though some will feel better on high normal range.

Make sure you've no other issues like low B12 etc, which can also contribute to feeling unwell.

Eat a healthy diet (lots of veges and natural foods), take a good multivitamin, and get regular exercise (ideally daily).   Lots of lifestyle things can contribute to how we feel, and sometimes it's not just or even only thyroid contributing.

When you get your labs drawn do make sure they check FT3, FT4 and TSH.  If these levels were all normal on synthroid then possibly you can do with just the T4.

I believe it depends on the person. Personally I take them both, Armour and Synthroid,  at the same time and I feel much better then when I was taking only Armour or only Levothyroxine. When you start taking Armour we need at least a month for the body to get used with the medication and to start feeling better.
For how long you take Armour and why you are not happy with it?
