Maybe try some Telfast instead of the Benydryl.
I found that a lot better than the Benydryl ...and I tend to agree with RedHead.
The stuff they put in the sheets is WRONG!
Powdered starch and Industrial Bleach.
The Telfast or Zyrtec will ease the rash....they are antihistamines.
Hi there. I doubt it is the calcium giving you the rash. When I had my surgery I had a rash that was terribly itchy and felt awful. Turns out it is the chemicals they use in the bed sheets! I was on high dose calcium (and am still on 3 years later!) and I have never had a rash from them.
Each time I go to hospital (over 17 times now!) I get the rash! The bed sheets are highly bleached and sterilised and the chemicals react to my already sensitive skin. You might find that was what it was. Took mine a week to go away after coming home!
Thanks for your response. I didn't have a drainage tube,so I didn't have betadine. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos prior to surgery. I still have a lot of pain in my throat and neck, but it has only been 3 days. The rash seems to be spreading and getting more itchy. I'm wondering if this rash is a common occurrence, or if it's something to worry about. I don't have an appointment with the doc until Monday. My husband did speak with the dr. on call today and he just said to cut out the calcium, take benedryl and put on cortisone.
The body can turn on itself after total thyroidectomy, I too after surgery and when my drainage tube was taken out reacted to betadine wash. It can cause your immune system to go nuts and attack itself causing many autoimmune diseases. Mine started showing up a few months after surgery. It started with feet pain then leg pain, and slowly moved upwards. The fatigue was bad. A lot of us that have had our thyroids out have had different complaints. Some end up with MS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, Livedo Reticularis, Raynauds, Sjorgrens and many more.
I have also met a woman that hers out and never had any problems.
