I had no adverse reactions to my thyroid uptake and its best to see what is going on. If there is a problem you will get progressively worse, so its best to catch it early. Good for your doctor.
So the ultrasound showed nodules? Does it describe them? I recently had an U/S - I didn't even know about thyroid problems until about a week ago! I had just noticed vague/small lumps on both sides of my neck after a bout of a virus. I went to my GP and the ultrasound said 'solid nodule with hypoechoic halo' etc. etc. I'm having a biopsy next week. Are u scheduled for one?
What does the Iodine uptake do?
The iodine uptake scan allows the doctors to see if your thyroid is overactive and what is hapening. The best I can describe it is that they give you a generous idodine dose in pill form then scan your neck to see what the body did with the dose. If your thyroid is overactive after 24 hours when they x-ray your thyroid gland it will show that all of the idodine is hanging out in your thyroid. I am sure the doctor can explain it better.
