I reduced my sleep from 8 hours to 7 hours it started to hurt around my thyroid area

Hello. I am 21-year old future businessman. In order to have more time for my work I want to reduce the amount of time I sleep. I usually need 8 hours to function normal throughout the day.

A few weeks later, I started to sleep for only 7 hours. In the first days of my new sleeping schedule I was feeling tired all day, but several days later it seemed that brain adapted to new sleeping schedule, and I functioned normal throughout the day. But few days later after it seemed that my brain adapted to new sleep schedule one thing emerged that worried me much.

It started to hurt around my thyroid area. It hurt even more when I felt a little stress. Everything went to normal when I returned to my usual sleep schedule.

What do you think, why did it hurt around my thyroid area? Is there any way to fix this problem so that I can reduce the amount of time I sleep without any harm done on my thyroid?

I’ve read some promising articles, that majority of people can successfully reduce the amount of time they sleep from 6 to 6,5 hours a night (for example http://time.com/4495418/how-to-sleep-less/ ). That’s why I tried to reduce my sleep.

Could you help me to figure out what goes wrong when I reduce my sleep and how to fix it?

English is not my native language, sorry for any mistakes

You've written very well for English not being your main language.  Don't worry about the minor errors; we overlook those as long as we understand what you're saying, otherwise we ask for clarification...

Although it's possible to reduce the amount of sleep we get , our bodies are meant to have somewhere around 8 to 8.5 hours of sleep/night.  We can do okay on lesser amounts for periods of time, but if we try to do this long term there could be adverse effects on our entire body.

I'm not sure why you had the thyroid pain or if what you experienced actually "was" thyroid pain.  It could have been something else telling you your body needs that extra hour of sleep.

Our body does a lot of "repair" and rejuvenation during sleep and if not given enough sleep, over time the damage done by daily stress will not be repaired.  We even lose weight while we sleep, so many people who are overweight really need more sleep...

Some people might be okay on less sleep; some won't.  Being a good businessman isn't always about working longer hours.  You'll be a better businessman if you listen to your body and give it the rest, exercise and nutrition it needs to stay healthy so it can serve you for years to come.

If you think you have a thyroid problem, it would be a good idea to visit your doctor and have some simple blood tests to make sure it's functioning properly.

Thank you so much for replying. I will schedule an appointment with endocrinologist in the near future to check that everything is OK with my thyroid.

Thanks again for replying
