not sure if you are hypothyroid - but magnesium depletion and iodine deficency can be associated with low thyroid function which will bring on horrible swelling.

Thanks you guys...

Peggy64 - 4 x the size was a bit of an exaggeration on my part, it just seems horrible because i'm not used to having any at all... My hands are about one ring size bigger and my face looks rounder is all..

Tamra - I just had my period and felt hyper symptoms too and the swelling.. "weird" guess it must be connected somehow eh? I'll check next month for a connection around my period time.. I know when women are on their period they retain more water because midol claims to reduce fluid retention.. must effect us more or something... hmm.. interesting...

Tree nuts and fruits high in potassium, such as bananas, make my lips and tongue swell. I can't eat walnuts anymore. My allergist says this happens to many people in their 30s.

My face and eyes do swell at times. It seems to be worse four days before my period, and four more days into my period. Now that my period is winding down, my face is returning to normal.  I also feel some hyper symptoms around period time. I asked my endo if the Hashi makes the period worse or if the period makes the Hashi worse, and he told me he didn't have an answer, but he does believe they are all connected.

with that much edema your dr should be notified to prevent heart and kidney problems from this.

Hi,  I have some swelling issues too from Grave's. I'm not too sure
about the diet, but maybe check with your doctor, The edema could
indicate something going such as too much or too little medication.
I sleep with my head elevated, avoid salt and sugar and I take a fluid
pill my doctor prescribed. A cool cloth on the face in the a.m. and in
      the evening. Take care.

forget the diet changes above being a cause.. I looked back over my symptoms tracker and I started having the swelling BEFORE the diet change.. ughh.. But can any of the things above exaccerbate fluid retention?

I have recently added more of these things to my diet "in moderation".. I have listed below.. can any of these things contribute to the fluid retention?

Plain walnuts
Plain almonds
brazil nuts
raisins
bananas
apples
whole wheat high fiber bread
gatorade
more water
V8 fusion
Plain oatmeal with bananas for sweetness.
