it was cancer so they removed the whole thyroid. i dont know what dx is though. i dont know my levels but i am assuming that what the endocronologist will be telling me on friday and that i also wont start any medication until after the rai.  they did tell me that me calcium levels are good so no meds for that.
i will find it diffucult to stay away from my kids though.. begining of school and you need to be there. i dont have any pain but i do feel tired though, but i always felt that way. can you share some side effects from the rai?
i assume then i will "live" at the dr's office then with the constant checking on my levels huh? should i then assume that i wont be going back to work for awhile?
thanks

I'm right there with you.  I had surgery to remove my left lobe in June due to a large "hot" nodule which I was assured would not be malignant.  Well it wasn't; however, the thyroid tissue was.  So back to surgery in July to remove the right lobe.  RAI is scheduled for October 1.  I wouldn't do it before then because my 2 daughters have birthdays in August and September and my endo told me I wouldn't be up to hosting a party once I went off the meds.

So, September 16 I stop my Cytomel and start a low iodine diet.  October 3 I get the RAI.  I have to stay away from my family for at least three days.  On October 6 I will start Cytomel and Synthroid.   I've read and been told that I will have joint and muscle aches and be exhausted from the day I stop the Cytomel until I get back on a therapeutic dose of meds.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Gerry

YOu will be okay, but not being on meds leading up to RAI is the tough part- at least for me.  My tsh climbed very high.  I am still working on lowering it with medication.  If you don't know what to bring, eat etc preparing for RAI, just post and this forum will help you so much.  It helped me.  Was is cancer?
