The cause of autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashi's, in your case) is unknown. For some reason, our immune systems start to see TPO (thyroid peroxidase) and TG (thyroglobulin) as foreign proteins and go about "protecting" our body from them. There are theories as to why this happens, and there are researchers working on treating autoimmune disease. However, type 1 diabetes, lupus, etc. seem to be getting priority over thyroid disease.
Do you have the reference ranges on your tests from your own lab report? Ranges vary from lab to lab, so we really need to see the ones from your own lab report (they're usually in parentheses after the result). Are you taking thyroid meds? If so, which and at what dose?
Here are my results taken in March and July 2010
March Blood test
TSH 5.030 mUI/L
FT3 2.99 ng/L
FT4 13.0 ng/L
AbTG 606 KUI/L
AbTPO 600 KUI/L
July Blood test
TSH 3.56 mcU/ml
FT3. 1.3 pg/ml
FT4 9.60
AbTG 127.8 IU/ml
AbTPO 552.4 IU/ml
(values/measurements change depending on Lab)
I have high antibodies does anyone have any explanation why we produce these antibodies?
