My Endo says I can do Thyrogen for my RAI...and my insurance covers it. I don't really understand why some say "yes" and some say "no" to Thyrogen!!! I also think it's very stinky that some insurance companies won't cover it. We're (OK, some of us are) frickin' Cancer patients, man!
To redhead...you may want to have him recheck the dosage. I was on 125 of synthroid and went to 50mcg of cytomel.
My kids aren't much help, they are 2,3,7 & 12. The 7y/o tries to help. The 12y/o is my nephew and he has ADD/ADHD and is more work than the little ones combined sometimes. Thyrogen isn't an option for me because I am set up to recieve possible repeat RAI with this scan and apparently thyrogen isn't approved for patients getting RAI just for scans. Thanks for the words of support. I am just so darn sleepy. Off to call the doctor!
I can relate since I will stop my meds next week and take cytomel. I was very hypo after my tt before RAI- I was on nothing for four weeks. It was HE##! I am not looking forward to this either. Take off from work if you need to. It sounds like you have children old enough to help out. My 11 year old knows that mommy won't be feeling so great and she has to understand and help out. I hired a housekeeper when I returned to work after my whole tt/RAI- I am a teacher and when school started, my TSH was over 36. I still have her come even though i feel great. She comes every other week. Boy am I glad I didn't get rid of her. My insurance won't pay for thyrogen either. I am going to try this route and if it is too miserable, I won't do it again. How much cytomel are you on??? He only prescribed 5mcg once a day. I am on 250 mcg of synthroid right now.
I'm the big whiney baby around here!!!
I urge you to take off as much time as you can get away with. Being Hypo damages your body, and stressing it at the same time makes it worse. Limit the damage as much as you can.
Sounds like you would have your hands full if you took leave of absence and stayed home. Working may be too much.
Thyrogen would be sweet, but it is not an option for some of us.
When I asked my Endo's nurse about it, she didn't know what I was talking about. My insurance company did, and they said no way they were going to pay for it.
Is Thyrogen out of the question for you? I really don't understand why people are made to go hypo when there is this option? I'm sorry, but I refuse to go hypo. Period.
YOU ARE NOT A BIG WHINNY BABY!!! I have 2 kids under the age of 3 at home and I just underwent surgery, TT last Thursday! I am not in HYPO HE// yet... but I am worn down!!!
I started my meds this morning so I have no idea what to expect. I'm just going with the flow. I was able to get out of bed this morning, so thats a plus for me!!
