Feeling Better after Endo Appointment

hi all,

just got back from my endo appointment - he confirmed i had a 2cm papillary carcinoma of thyroid gland but he made me feel so much better about everything, he's so lovely he listens and explains things so well. i'm a bit sad that he's refered me over to an oncologist at a different hospital and i won't be seeing him for a while. And he said it hadn't spread despite my GP telling me there was minimal lymph node involvement. (which gave me the impression there was some lymph node involvement)

Next step is RAI - he has changed my meds from 125mcg Levothyroxine to 20mcg Liothyronine so that i don't have to stop taking it for so long.

Is anyone else on Liothyronine? is it as effective? i have to take it twice a day.

Just awaiting appointment with oncologist now,

still feeling a bit nervous about it all, but feeling better than i did :)

love Helen x x x

I'm glad you're feeling good about things.  My Endo followed my case through RAI, so I didn't have an oncologist.  I was grateful for that.  As for the T3, I was actually on that immediately following my TT, but was then switched to Synthroid since I was doing Thyrogen injections for my RAI treatment.  As far as I know, they will ask you to withdraw from the T3 two weeks before your treatment, as well as follow the LID.  I would ask about Thyrogen injections since I have heard that going hypo can be quite nasty.

Feels good to be on the other side of the surgery, doesn't it?  You'll feel this same relief once RAI is out of the way as well.  It's amazing to feel like you've made it through the tough stuff.

Best of everything to you!

I felt the same way - my endo really helped me feel so much better!  I'm glad she was able to put your mind at ease. The Liothyronine is probably similar to Cytomel here in the US - it's T3 that doesn't interfere with the RAI.

You are going to do great!

just running in and out to pick someone up at Gatwick.  Glad to hear it went ok and you are sounding positive.  My scan was no problem at all and I am drinking lots of water to try to flush the radioactive stuff out now! (Get results next week). I wonder if I will glow in the dark tonight!
Talk later - so pleased to hear you ok :)

in the uk im pretty sure liothyronine is the name given to t3 you must have a good endo as everyone ive seen refuses to prescribe it. its the active hormone so you should feel better on it than just thyroxine good luck.

Helen,
An Oncologist is who will determine the amount of RAI you will be given. I'm so glad you have a nice endo, mine won't even look at you when you ask him something. I hope you get the RAI soon, waiting is hard. I was on Cytomel until 21 days before my RAI and I still felt slugish. I wish you well and nervous feelings are just normal.
HUGS Kim
