Is it thyroid related?

Hi!  I've never posted to this board before.  I'm sure this is going to sound like silly worrying but I just want to be sure.  I've been taking meds for hypothyroidism for a few years now.  My levels were always good when I was tested so my doctor gave me a year's prescription.  I'm coming to the end of that year now and I'm starting to have funny symptoms.  Aside from the usual fatigue, brittle hair, etc, I'm also finding myself incredibly foggy lately.  The scarier symptom is that I've become sentitive to light.  I work on a PC all day and there are times where the screen seems so bright that I have to look away and adjust my eyes.  The third new symptom is pressure and sometimes pain in my left temple.  It's not constant.  I have an appt to get my levels checked and an eye doctor appt for the light sensitivity but it's worrying me.  Are these new symptoms perhaps related to my hypothyroidism?

Thanks in advance!

Probably.

You should be getting tested more frequently.

My first MD would only write scrips for three months. He made me test every three months before he would write another scrip.

Your TSH may be a little high.

Welcome to the board. :)
Call your doctor and ask to be tested soon.

Possibly. When I was newly diagnosed with hashimoto's hypothyroid I  thought that I was a little sensitive to bright light, especially outdoor sunlight. Lots of people on this board write about having "mind fog" and forgetfulness when their TSH is too high, I defintely had that when my TSH was high. Fatigue and brittle are are also hypo symptoms. If you notice a return of old symptoms or new hypo symptoms you may need an adjustment in your synthroid/med. I also had frequent headaches around the time of my hypo diagnosis, and also had really bad GERD. The only way for you to know for sure if your symptoms are thyroid related is to have a blood test!!! Your doctor should test your TSH level (and probably T3 and T4 levels too). It can't hurt to get and eye exam, so why not!  If everything is normal, you can proceed to see a neurologist for the headaches.  Meanwhile, don't worry or imagine what it might be!!!!  Start by getting your TSH tested. Your thyroid may be failing more than in the past and you might need an higher dose of synthroid/med. That happens. Blood test is the best place to start!
