First Post synthroid results

I was put on synthroid 50mcg for 8 weeks for low FT4/low FT3.  I was feeling so good on the third and 4th week but not feeling as bad as I was but still not as good as I did.  My first bloodwork since starting synthroid:

NEW TEST                                     2 MONTHS AGO

TSH 0.66                                       TSH  0.94

FT4-  1.8                                        FT4  0.89

FT3- 286                                        FT3  232

the doctor said I may not be converting T4 to T3 as good as I should.  He raised the dose of synthroid to 75 mcg.  I will have another test done in 2 months.  He said my T4 needs to stay at 1.8  and my t3 needs to go to at least 350.  if not he wants to put me on Cytomel w/ the synthroid.  Does that sound right?   my t3 went up 50 points.  Any suggestions?  thank you.

You seem to have two posts going on the same basic question now.  I'll defer to the other post and let the answers come from there.

Does the synthroid and cytomel work as well as the Armour does?  I hear so many positive things about Armour.  Feeling great, wt loss, energy.  will these thing still happen w/ the sythroid and cytomel?  I am sure he would do either but I want to make sure it will be the best one.  thank you!

It would be helpful to know the reference ranges used by the lab, for your test results.  Assuming that the ranges are similar to what I see frequently, my suggestion is hang on tight to your doctor.  Your doctor seems to know how to treat you effectively.

I'm sure that you will be started on a fairly low dose of Cytomel, split into two daily doses.  In my opinion, the very best way to treat a thyroid patient is to test and adjust FT3 and FT4 levels with whatever medication is required to alleviate symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH.  If your TSH eventually drops below the ref. range as your FT3 increases,  that is nothing to get concerned about, unless you develop hyper symptoms to go with it.  Symptom relief is all important.  The reason I mention this is that some doctors don't quite understand and want to start reducing meds as a response to a low TSH.  I don't expect your doctor would react this way, but I just wanted to alert you to the possibility.
