First visit with Endo

He ordered an RAI uptake/scan for the multinodular goiter and when I asked about the 2.3 cm nodule, he said it could be inflammation. I thought nodules over 1 cm were often biopsied ?  Is a scan usually done before a biopsy? Maybe I get to skip that!

He also said that my thyroid hormone levels are on the high end of normal and I may be hyper, even though I have no symptoms.

I have my scan on 2-10 and go back to see the Dr. on 2-18.  Hopefully then I will know something.

Thanks for listening (well,reading) ~

Thank you, Jasmine.

It sounds like I'm following the same plan as you- US then scan.  I think I was confusing the larger nodule as seperate from the goiter , and thought it would be biopsied.

I need to just relax and see what happens...LOL.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hello,

Thank you for your help. You have given me hope that I may get some sort of answer after the next test. My TSH is 0.527 , so the endo suspects hyper. I just want whatever is in my neck....out of there. The thought of something in there growing is freaking me out.

I hope you find some answers soon!

Thanks,
Michelle

My first visit was for an ultrasound.  Then I went for the uptake scan.  When that didn't come back normal, my doctor then ordered the biopsy as the last test.  You only need the biopsy if they can't say for sure that it is just a goiter and they want to rule out the growth.

Hi,
After a CT scan discovered nodules on my thyroid, I was scheduled for biopsy.  All returned normal, next step was Ultrasound, then uptake scan.

Out of all the test performed on me, the past 2.5 years, the uptake scan was the only test that revealed any abnormalities.  I am extremely hyperthyroid.

I don't believe there is any specific order a test is performed, a doctor or endo, schedules testing from evaulations and best judgement.

Good luck to you !
