Stitches or other stuff?

Hi again,

I have a surgery scar question. . . did you get stitches on your scar, or something else?

I have stitches and the scar seems pretty thick already (just had surgery Monday).  I just noticed that there's a bubble (blister?) in the middle.  Not very happy about this!!  >:(

Thanks,
Tricia

over in the uk i had staples and they were left in to long as a result  i have a thick 4 inch scar with raised bumps above and below the line (about 30 in total) where the staples were removed and after nearly 2 years they are still obvious but i am just glad the thyroids gone whatever it looks like it was still worth it.

First surgery had internal stitches and steristips externally. Second surgery just internal stitches. The new thinking is to leave the wound to heal naturally without any pulling etc. I did have a pressure bandage on it for 2 days which was on with a kind of cling wrap sticky film . After that came off it was just a long thin red line. I did have a bump under the skin too, it was the internal stitches which eventually absorb in the body so don't worry too much about that. The bubble you mention is just skin pulled into a tight little area, that will go down too with time.

Same here about the internal stitches and steri strips (both times).  Scar looked pretty angry for months but is almost impossible to see now.

I also had the internal stitches and steri strips.  My incision actually did get infected on one side and a week after TT I was at the ER getting IV antibiotics.  I think my scar looks pretty good.  It's been 6 weeks now and it's still a little red/pink, but it's not real puffy and the infection is gone.  I've been using;  infrared light patches, silicone sheets at night and Bio Oil after my shower :)

That kelo-cote sounds interesting...I'll try anything!

I have a pretty scare on the front of my neck. I have found a good dermatoligist that uses a procedure that works real good with a silacone gel as well. Kelo-cote, the newer the scare the better the results.

I had external stitches and had them removed by my GP about 10 days post op. Kept Glaxal Base on my scar to keep it soft and did some neck exercises so it wouldn't get tight, although I waited to do that as I was nervous about doing damage.

Me too .. steri strips + internal ones.. my SIL who had TT 6 weeks after me had the glue!  You cannot even see her scar boo hoo for me .. but most heal almost invisible in about a year's time .. just keep it protected from sun the first year!!!  Or it may darken.

I had stitches, but they were internal.  About 5 to 7 days post op, I noticed a bump underneath the skin on one side.  Everyone on the forum confirmed for me that it was just a stitch bundle.  Even if you have external stitches, it could be from some of the internal stitches.

If you are still concerned, put a call into your doctor's office tomorrow.  However, if you have a fever or the area is red and infected, you should go to the emergency dept.
